<p>Bengaluru: The <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/karnataka">Karnataka</a> high court on Thursday lashed out at the investigation into the Bhovi Corporation scam case, observing that the state appears to be shielding the main accused. “I think this is a fit case to be handed over to the <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/cbi">CBI</a>. The state is moving at a snail’s pace, protecting or shielding the accused,” Justice M Nagaprasanna observed while hearing the petitions filed by two accused (accused number 7 and 8).</p><p>The court said in a scam of over Rs 100 crore four main accused (accused 1, 2, 3 and 5) have not even been summoned for the investigation. </p><p>Justice Nagaprasanna orally said, “They are not granted bail for the last one and a half years. They are at large, not even summoned for investigation. What sort of investigation is this? This is the way the state is functioning with these scams. Therefore, the state appears to be shielding the accused 1, 2, 3 and 5 who are at large. Therefore it is a fit case as to why the entire investigation should not be handed over to an independent agency as the state appears to be acting with a snail’s pace in an alleged scam of such huge magnitude. The state shall by the next date produce all the records of A1, 2, 3, 5 their participation in the investigation or any bail secured by them. Failing which, this court would be constrained to pass necessary orders,” Justice Nagaprasanna said. The matter has been posted to January 6, 2025 for further consideration.</p><p>On December 4, 2024, the court had constituted a three-member special investigation team to probe the alleged abetment to suicide charge against DySP Kanaka Lakshmi BM, one of the investigation officers in the Bhovi scam. One of the accused in the case, S Jeeva had ended her life by suicide, leaving behind a detailed suicide note alleging torture by investigating officer Kanaka Lakshmi.</p>
