The Cauvery agitation picked up in the district on Thursday with the Cauvery Monitoring Committee directing the Karnataka government to release water to Tamil Nadu again.

The activists of the Raitha Sangha blocked the Mysore-Bangalore passenger train for 15 minutes near Gejjalagere of Maddur taluk while pro-Kannada activists staged a protest in Mandya.

Zilla Raithara Hitharakshana Samiti president G Madegowda said the CMC has only recommended further release of water which the government need not comply with.

He said a meeting of the legislators and Lok Sabha members from the State will soon be called in Bangalore to chalk out the future course of action.

“The matter will come up before the Supreme Court on Saturday. Our strategy will depend on the orders of the apex court that day,” Madegowda said.

Meanwhile, prohibitory orders were clamped in a radius of one kilometre of Krishnarajasagar dam from Thursday midnight till October 12.
