Subrahmanya, Uppinangady floods recede; exams cancelled

The flooding in Subrahmanya and Uppinangady in Dakshina Kannada receded as rains abated briefly on Friday morning.

However, the Panja-Subrahmanya road remains inundated, thereby affecting traffic on the road.

Even the bathing ghat on the banks of the river Kumaradhara at Kukke Subrahmanya remains marooned.

The Hosamata bridge on Kadaba-Subrahmanya road continues to remain submerged.

KSRTC Mangaluru division has resumed daytime Volvo bus services to Bengaluru via SK Border-Kudremukh, from Friday. With the closure of Shiradi and Sampaje Ghats, KSRTC had stopped it's premium bus services to Bengaluru from Mangaluru.

Police exam cancelled

Meanwhile, the written test for police constable recruitment for Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate, which was scheduled to be held at Alva's college in Moodbidri on August 19, is cancelled.

A media release from Mangaluru Police Commissioner T R Suresh said that heavy rain in some districts would make it difficult for aspirants to reach the venue of the test on time.

Thumbe dam nearing full

Also, the water level in the Thumbe dam built across river Nethravathi in Bantwal taluk, has risen to 7.5 metres following heavy rains in the taluk on Friday.

The maximum level of the dam is 10 metres.

Mangaluru Mayor Bhasker K, Commissioner B Muhammed Nazir and others visited the dam.
