“Subbanna spent his entire life on educating poor children and opened schools in rural areas and economically weaker regions. He was a ray of hope for several hundreds of students who had no access to education,” he said.

Krishna was speaking at the 19th death anniversary organised at the T S Subbanna Sarvajanika Vidya Samsthe at Vidyaranyapuram here on Monday. The icon begged for money, cereals and pulses to impart free education for the students and improve the literacy rate. His sacrifice was unmatchable which enabled him to establish 11 high schools for the poor in rural areas, he said.

Block Education Officer (BEO) Raghunandan termed Subbanna as a simple man and a follower of Gandhian philosophy. He said that imparting value education for students is possible only when the teachers have values. On the occasion, students who secured the highest marks in SSLC examination were felicitated. The teachers who played a crucial role in guiding the students were also honoured.

Secretary of the Vidya Samsthe C Basave Gowda, prof K R Rangaiah others were present.
