TB detection and treatment campaign

A TB detection and treatment campaign has been launched as part of the National TB Control Programme in Dakshina Kannada on Monday. The campaign will continue till July 13, said DHO Dr Ramakrishna Rai.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, he said that early detection of the disease will help curing the infected person. There are about 40% of people suffering from TB in the country.

Those who are suffering from malnutrition, diabetes, HIV are more likely to be infected with TB. Common symptoms of TB include tiredness, losing weight, fever and night sweats. Also a cough with pulmonary TB and pain in the bones.

TB control clinics are functioning in Magaluru North, Mangaluru South, Moodbidri, Bantwal, Puttur, Sullia and Belthangady. TB can be completely cured. DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment, Short Course) help in treating tuberculosis.

The aim of the campaign is to detect TB patients and to treat them. A total of 500 teams with 1,116 health officials have been constituted to create awareness among the general public. Vulnerable areas have already been identified and the officials will visit houses in these areas to create awareness.
