Karnataka: Three children drown while swimming in lake in Chikkaballapur district

Bagepalli (Chikkaballapur district): Three children, aged between 12 and 16, drowned while swimming in a lake at Achepalli village in the taluk on Friday.

The police have identified the deceased as Nihalraj (12), Vishnuvardhan (14), both students of the Achepalli government higher primary school, and Harshavardhan (16), a student of Vivekananda PU College. A group of six students ventured into the lake for swimming. The three victims didn’t know how to swim and drowned after they entered the silt-laden lake. Three others swam to safety and rushed to the village to inform their parents about the incident.

The Fire and Emergency Services personnel, along with locals, fished out the bodies and shifted them to the taluk hospital for post-mortem.

Bagepalli MLA K N Subbareddy announced Rs 1 lakh each to parents of deceased students as immediate
relief.
