District Congress Committee president K K Manjunath Kumar said the state government is directly responsible for the death of two innocents in a tiger attack at Srimangala.

He urged the forest minister to step down, owning moral responsibility for the same.

He said that even though the people in the district have been facing a lot of hardships due to natural calamities and wild animal menace, the BJP-led state government has turned a blind eye to them.

“If the government had issued directions to the forest department at the right time, two lives could have been saved. There have been tiger attacks on cattle from the last six months. But, the government was in deep slumber,” he added.

The chief minister has escaped from his responsibility after allocating portfolios to the ministers. The ministers do not have any hold on their respective departments. Forest minister Aravind Limbavali, who has totally failed to manage his department, should immediately step down from his post, he said.

Even though the BJP is in power in the state, the MLAs are not responding to the problems in their constituencies. The MLAs have failed to obtain grants from the government, said Manjunath.

Two lives would not have been lost if the local MLAs had mounted pressure on the government to take strict measures on wild animal attacks, he added.
