<p>India is perceived by the USA as a Net security provider in Central Asia. India’s growth is net positive and is a model for other countries, said American University School of International Service, Assistant Professor and non-resident senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security in Washington D C, Dr Stephen Tankel.<br /><br /></p>.<p>He was delivering a talk on ‘Regional look at Security in South and Central Asia’, organised by St Aloysius College department of Political Science, at Teletorium in St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, on Friday.<br /><br />He further mentioned that there is a difference between looking strong and being strong and that India’s settling of disputes peacefully is an example of being strong.<br /><br />Stating that USA is increasingly encouraged to continue the growing engagement it has with its neighbouring countries, Prof Stephan said that various aspects of various terrorism groups are not strategic players but can be used to have strategic effect in terms of hampering connectivity among different countries. <br /><br />Speaking on how US policies have been involving in South and Central Asia, Stephan said that US has been supporting many nations towards fighting against terrorism.<br /><br />US Consulate, Chennai, Public Affairs Officer Ariel Pollock stated that the US consulate looks forward to such discussions as a strategic plus partnership where they look to build people to people ties between India and the USA. <br /><br />College Principal Rev Fr Swebert D’Silva presided over the programme and said that students should prepare themselves for global competencies and should be ready to work anywhere in the world.<br /><br />This lecture was followed by an interactive session. St Aloysius College Political Science department Head Dr Rose Veera D’Souza and others were present.</p>
