The villagers in Chennenahalli and Chikka Pattanagere have initiated a move to clean a canal that joins a lake in Kadur taluk.

The canal from Modalada Kere in Chikka Pattanagere was filled with silt and weeds and this was affecting the easy flow of water.

Owing to the drought-like situation the last few years, no one initiated measures to clean the canals.

Kadur has received good rain in the recent past. As a result, Madagada Kere is almost full in Kadur and the farmers are looking forward to the filling of other lakes.

From Madagada Kere, water flows to Huligondirayana Kere through a canal at Chikka Pattanagere.

Noticing the poor condition of the canal, Saraswathipura GP President C V Anand along with villagers took up a drive to clean the canal covering a distance of 10-km.

Basaveshwara Kere Neeru Balakedarara Sangha President C T Diwakar said, “We had struggled the last few years following the drought-like situation in the taluk. The villagers voluntarily came forward to clean the canal, which has helped rainwater to flow easily to fill the lake.”
