'Women are not safe under Congress govt,' BJP accuses Congress govt in Karnataka

Speaking to media persons, in Mysuru, on Wednesday, BJP state spokesperson Surabhi Hodigere said, the brutal rape and murder of a migrant street vendor, a minor girl from Kalaburgi, in the heart of Mysuru, immediately after Dasara, by a repeat offender, is due to the negligence of the officials.

Mysuru: BJP state spokesperson Surabhi Hodigere accused that women, especially from the Ahinda community and also from the most backward district of Kalaburgi of the IT BT Minister Priyank Kharge, have no safety in Karnataka, under the Congress government.

Speaking to media persons, in Mysuru, on Wednesday, she said, the brutal rape and murder of a migrant street vendor, a minor girl from Kalaburgi, in the heart of Mysuru, immediately after Dasara, by a repeat offender, is due to the negligence of the officials. “What is the followup on the repeat offender, by the Police? What action has the Karnataka State Women’s Commission taken to punish the accused and to help the victim’s family? Had the Police department kept the accused under surveillance after he came out on bail, for his earlier offence, the minor girl would not have been subject to such a brutal crime,” she said.

“The Congress-led Karnataka government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe imaginary rape and murder cases in connection with Dharmasthala. But, what action has it taken in the case of the Kalaburgi girl case? What action has the Women’s Commission taken to mitigate the sufferings of the family of the Kalaburgi girl, who is from a marginalised, Ahinda community. I stress on the Ahinda community, because Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is deemed to be a champion of the Ahinda community,” Surabhi said.

“When certain communities have no resources, and there is need for government support, the Commission, which is a statutory body, should pitch in. What is the chief and members of the Commission doing? Do they think that attending functions, posting reels, speaking up for actors and celebrities and wielding power and influence are the functions of the Commission? They should pay attention to help the marginalised communities, families or persons, when they are suffering. The Commission chief is missing in action in the Kalaburgi girl’s case,” Surabhi said.

“The Kalaburgi girl’s family, a nomadic Scheduled Caste community, does not even have the basic Aadhar card to establish their identity and avail government benefits. Why does not the Commission go and help them?” Surabhi asked.
