<p>Thiruvananthapuram: The death of a 15-year-old boy in Malappuram district of Kerala after suffering electric shock from an illegal electric trap has triggered a major political row in the assembly bypoll-bound Nilambur constituency.</p><p>Ananthu alias Jithu, 15, died on Saturday evening. Two others also suffered injuries in the incident. The electric trap was set up by illegally taking power supply from an open electric line passing through the area. Prima facie it was suspected to be set up to catch wild boars. Local people alleged that rackets selling wild boar meat were thriving in the region. </p><p>The incident triggered a political row with Kerala Forest Minister A K Saseendran raising suspicion of a political ploy behind the incident as the bypoll campaign was progressing. "Even before the local people became aware of the incident, there were protests by opposition political parties in the Malappuram town. Moreover, the electric trap was said to be not spotted by anyone till Saturday afternoon. The opposition parties are considering the incident as an opportunity for the bypoll campaign," he said.</p><p>Backing his version, CPM state secretary M V Govindan said that the phone call records of the accused should be checked to find the persons he contacted ahead of the incident.</p><p>Opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front strongly condemned the statement of the forest minister and the CPM leader. While Congress candidate Aryadan Shoukath blamed the state government for the "ineffective" enforcement against such illegal traps, CPM candidate M Swaraj alleged that the opposition was trying to use a tragedy as an opportunity.</p><p>Nilambur is one region that suffers from acute man-animal conflict. Several persons were killed in wild animal attacks in the region. Hence, man-animal conflict has been a hot topic in the ongoing campaign for the June 19 bypoll. The fresh incident further aggravated the campaign.</p><p>The police arrested a local native Vineesh in connection with the incident. A case was registered under section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.</p>
