<p>Mumbai: Pune-based Dr Sumit Mandale, a doctor, adventurer, mountaineer and expert rock-climber has designed a Mountain Safety Course.</p><p>The first edition of the Mountain Safety Course would be held in November - which will entail 3 days of two-hour each online sessions and three-day residential outdoor sessions. </p><p>The age group to attend the course is between 15-75. </p> .<p>The key highlights of the course are basic outdoor skills of outdoors, risk analysis and management, rescue in mountains and practical cases, and mountain weather forecast.</p><p>There would be a special session on high altitude medicine by Dr Mandale, who has scaled Mt Kangchenjunga, Mt Annapurna, Mt Cho Oyu.</p><p>Dr Mandale is an expert outdoor instructor, teaching mountaineering, rock climbing, and other adventure sports.</p> .<p>Beyond his mountaineering pursuits, Dr. Mandale is a creator of the 'Challenge of Everest' board game, a tool designed to inspire adventure and educate people about the challenges of mountaineering.</p><p>He is also the author of the Marathi book 'Yashogatha Annapurna Chi'.</p> .<p>Besides, he had participated in mountain rescue and body recovery missions in Sahyadri and Himalayas and was in teams engaged in relief work after Nepal earthquake (2015) and Mahad flood relief work (2021).</p><p>Other speakers include Anand Mali, who has scaled Mt Everest and Mt Kangchenjunga, Omkar Oak, a rescue team coordinator and expert mountaineers Aniket Kulkarni, Dinesh Kotkar, Aniket Sohani and Bhushan Sheth. “The number of people going for trekking and mountaineering in the Sahyadri Ranges and Himalayas is increasing day by day. But at the same time the number of accidents are also increasing. The reasons for this accident are lack of adventure training and ignorance of the dangers in the mountains,” said Dr Mandale. </p>
