Rs 1 crore to drop rape case: Mumbai woman makes offer to man she accused earlier

According to the man's statement, the woman began pressurising him to marry her in 2022, but he refused, citing that he was already married. Following this, the woman filed rape and cheating cases against him to the Borivali police in Mumbai.

On November 10, 2023, a married man was arrested in Mumbai after being accused of rape and cheating by a woman with whom he had a mutually consenting relationship for more than six years. However, in a rather unexpected turn of events, the woman was booked by police on Thursday, December 2, on charges of attempting to extort Rs 1 crore from the man she had pressed rape charges against.

After remaining in custody for over a month in November 2023, the man was released on bail on December 13 of that year, as per the police.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the woman, who is in her mid-30s, proposed to drop the rape charges against the man in exchange for the money.

The accused woman was well acquainted with the man since 2012, while the later has been married to another woman since 2013, said police officials. According to the man's statement, the woman began pressurising him to marry her in 2022, but he refused, saying that he was already married. Following this, the woman filed rape and cheating cases against him at the Borivali police in Mumbai.

He also claimed that the woman called him up numerous times after he was released from prison demanding a meeting. Once they met, she demanded Rs 1 crore, in return of which she proposed to drop the rape charge, he said.

The man further added that he had never committed to marrying her, as per his police complaint.

According to authorities, the man later came to know that the woman had surreptitiously attached both of her cell phone numbers to his online accounts, giving her access to all of his personal data, including his current location, bank transactions, intimate images, and more.

The man's complaint also stated that in May 2024, he received a threat message from her number that read, "You will never win and die in pain. Give money or die in jail."
