Mann, his supporters raise 'Khalistan' slogans

The function at Akal Takht, the top temporal seat of the Sikhs, attended by Sikh religious and political leaders, was organisd by the SGPC.Akal Takht Jathedar Gurbachan Singh and other leaders told the gathering that the "wounds inflicted by the Operation Blue Star remain unhealed".

After the Jathedar concluded his speech, Mann, head of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), and his supporters raised "Khalistan" slogans.

Mann also sought clemency for militant Davinder Singh Bhullar, a death row prisoner.
In June 1984, the Indian army launched Operation Blue Star to flush out militants hiding in the Golden Temple.

Militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was killed in the Operation.
