The committee set up by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) submitted a report before the Calcutta High Court regarding alleged human rights violations in West Bengal due to post-poll violence.

The report was submitted in a sealed cover before the five-judge bench comprising of acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justices Harish Tandon, I P Mukherjee, Subrata Talukdar, and Soumen Sen.

Responding to PILs claiming that post-poll violence was taking place in the state, the five judge bench directed that the committee would look into all the cases, the complaints already received by the NHRC, which may be received or “may be by visiting the affected areas” and submit a comprehensive report regarding the ground level situation.

The bench on June 18 instructed the NHRC chairperson to set up the committee. The complainants submitted representations to the committee, led by Rajiv Jain, for three back to back days till Tuesday. The case will again come up for hearing. It visited several places on West Bengal to look into the authenticity of the complaints.
