<p>New Delhi: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday said that it is not possible to discuss the functioning of the Election Commission, and so no discussion on special intensive revision (SIR) is possible. </p><p>He said that a previous precedent exists when former Lok Sabha Speaker Balram Jakhar had ruled that EC cannot be discussed in Parliament. </p>.Kiren Rijiju accuses Opposition of skirting debate on Operation Sindoor, Congress hits back.<p>He said that the government will convey this to Speaker Om Birla next Monday and that the decision depends on the Speaker now. </p><p>“The SIR is a procedure initiated by the EC. It is not the first time this exercise has taken place. Can we discuss any executive order by the EC or any of its administrative works in Parliament will be decided by rules, and by the Speaker,” Rijiju said. </p><p><br>Rijiju added that at the time of Balram Jakhar as Lok Sabha Speaker, he had ruled that the EC can't be discussed in the House. “A precedent exists, and we will follow it,” he said. </p><p>He said that the Opposition wants to disrupt the proceedings. “As the parliamentary affairs minister, I bring the government’s business to the House. The Opposition might give a notice, but rules will have to be followed. There are so many issues to be highlighted; they’ve picked this one and stuck to it,” he said. </p><p>"The Opposition is trying to spread the idea that the government is stopping them from speaking in Parliament. “This is a wrong portrayal. The rules extend to everyone — the government and the Opposition, both. We have not stopped anyone from speaking,” Rijiju said. </p><p>Rijiju also took aim at Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and said that his “dead economy” remark has found opposition from Opposition leaders. “Senior Opposition leaders have condemned it; he’s not a kid, he should take things seriously,” Rijiju said. </p>
