<p>New Delhi: Pakistan’s economic hub Karachi was the target of the Indian Navy as one of the responses in case of any escalation of the conflict from the Pakistan side, a top Indian Navy officer said here on Sunday.</p><p>“Our forces remained forward deployed in the northern Arabian Sea in a dissuasive and deterrent posture, with full readiness and capacity to strike select targets at sea, and on land, including Karachi, at time of our choosing,” said Vice Admiral A N Pramod, Director General of Naval Operations.</p><p>The DGNO was a part of a team of senior leaders from three Services to provide a detailed account on the actions taken by Indian armed forces between May 7-10 after the Pakistan military struck Indian civil and military installations with drones and missiles.</p><p>Admiral Pramod said within 96 hours of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, the naval forces were out in the sea testing and refining tactics and procedures to revalidate “our crew, armament, equipment and platform readiness to deliver various ordnance on selected targets precisely.”</p><p>“The Indian Navy’s Carrier Battle Group (an aircraft carrier along with other combat ships), surface forces, submarines and aviation assets were immediately deployed at sea with full combat readiness, in concert with the joint operational plan of the Indian defence forces,” he said.</p><p>Director General of Military Operations Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai said on the night of May 9-10, some “telling manoeuvres in the Arabian Sea” exerted pressure on the enemy.</p><p>The forward deployment of the Indian Navy compelled Pakistani Naval and air units to be in a defensive posture, mostly inside harbours or very close to their coast, which India monitored continuously. Throughout the duration, the Indian Navy was entirely aware of the location and movement of Pakistani units.</p>.Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif hopes to reinvigorate bilateral ties with US under Trump.<p>“As part of the escalation control mechanism, the application of force by the Navy was planned in a synchronised manner in concert with the Army and the Air Force, the highlight being teams from the three Services working closely in an integrated manner,” Vice Admiral Pramod said.</p><p>The officers said along with kinetic actions by the Indian Army and Indian Air Force, the overwhelming operational edge of the Indian Navy at sea, contributed towards Pakistan’s urgent request for a ceasefire yesterday.</p><p>“As we speak, India Navy remains deployed at sea in a credible deterrent posture, to respond decisively to any inimical action by Pakistan, or Pakistan based terrorist,” Admiral Pramod said.</p>
