<p>New Delhi: Prime Minister <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/narendra-modi">Narendra Modi</a> on Monday chaired a meeting of a high-level committee to choose the next CBI Director but the deliberations remained inconclusive, sources said.</p><p>Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna attended the meeting, which comes ahead of the end of the two-year term of incumbent CBI chief Praveen Sood on May 25.</p>.Judicial probe on Justice Varma: Panel submits report to CJI on cash recovery incident.<p>A 1986-batch IPS officer of Karnataka cadre, Sood was Director General of Police in Karnataka when he was appointed CBI Director.</p><p>There was no official word on what transpired in the meeting but sources said the committee could not arrive at a consensus on the shortlisted names. There are indications that Sood may get a one-year extension as the law provides for the continuation of a CBI chief for this period.</p><p>The CBI Director is chosen by the union government on the recommendation of a three-member appointment committee, headed by the Prime Minister and comprises the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and the Chief Justice of India.</p>
