Poll-O-Meter: Better luck next time

In the 1951 general elections, Rs 67,59,735 was received as security deposit for the polls from 26,489 candidates.

But deposits made by 9,198 candidates were forfeited as they could not garner more than one-sixth of votes polled. Rs 4,02,150 was forfeited to the Central government and Rs
17,08,125 went to state governments.
