Remo's advice to parents: Gift your child a condom

“When your children reach their teens, gift a condom,” said Remo during the break of a musical show here on Wednesday.

The musician from Goa, whose maiden pop number nearly created a stir across the nation, was absolutely tongue-in-cheek when asked to elaborate.

“I think it’s better to be shocked with my song than to be shocked with the knowledge (later in the day) that your child has AIDS.”

 “I know my message to parents would be jarring, shocking.. Nevertheless, I’d not like to hesitate,” he said, recalling that when he had first performed his hit number “Everybody wants to...” , many were shocked because they found the song brazenly speaking about sex.

The rock star who used to sing in Goanese, English and Hindi, has been lending his voice to highlight the menace of AIDS since 1986 when most people were either unaware of the disease or were too shy to talk about it openly.
