Sporadic clash in Bengal over trade union strike

Sporadic clashes between CITU and police took place on Tuesday morning as the trade union workers blocked the roads and railway tracks across the state.

CPI(M) MLA Sujan Chakraborty along with several trade union workers were arrested from the Jadavpur area of Kolkata as they tried to stage a road blockade.

A scuffle broke out between police and CITU workers when police tried to lift the blockade.

CITU workers staged a rail blockade at Sreerampore and other stations in Hooghly district causing severe inconvenience to passengers.

RPF and police resorted to baton charge to lift the blockade.

A school bus was vandalised at Barasat in North 24 Paraganas district and the driver was allegedly assaulted by the CITU workers.

When police tried to lift a road blockade in the area the strike supporters pelted stones at them and police responded with baton charge.

Rail traffic was severely disrupted in both Sealdah Main and South Section.
