Supreme Court refuses urgent hearing of plea challenging MCD notification on picking of stray dogs from Delhi-NCR

A two-judge bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan had on August 11 directed authorities in Delhi-NCR to start picking up stray dogs from all localities 'at the earliest' and relocate the animals to dog shelters.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to urgently list a plea challenging a recent notification and implementation of the top court's order by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to round up stray dogs in the Delhi-NCR and sent them to shelters.

Lawyer Nanita Sharma, appearing for an organisation, mentioned the matter before a bench of Justices J K Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi.

She urged the top court to urgently list the matter.

Sharma's plea stated that the MCD issued the notification to implement the Supreme Court's August 11 order, despite the fact that the orders have been reserved by the apex court's different bench on August 14.

The court, however, declined to consider the plea.

It is notable that the apex court has not stayed the August 11 order so far.

The Supreme Court's two-judge bench had on August 11, directed for rounding up and shifting all stray dogs in Delhi NCR region to shelter homes.
