Tatas’ Assam semiconductor plant to start making chips in 2026: Ashwini Vaishnaw

New Delhi: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday said the semiconductor plant being constructed by Tata Electronics in Assam would begin production of “Made In India” chips in 2026.

After reviewing the progress of the project at site at Jagiroad in Morigaon district, the Minister said the construction of this plant will be completed by 2025, and production will commence in 2026.

"Approximately 40,000 employees will work here. Housing facilities and a complete electronic city are being planned for them. I also inspected the designs and plans for the plant, and I am happy to share that the construction work is progressing rapidly, " the Minister said.

The plant under construction is an ultra-modern semiconductor plant. It will be India's largest semiconductor plant, located in Assam. The foundation of this initiative lies in the Prime Minister's vision of developing the "Ashta Lakshmi" states. Through this project, all our colleagues in the North East will get an excellent opportunity to be part of a future-ready industry, " a statement quoting the Minister said.

"It will be a matter of great pride for us that "Made in Assam" chips will be utilized in the automobile industries of countries like Japan, the USA, and Germany. Through this "Made in India" initiative, Assam's contribution will further elevate India's global standing, " the Minister said.
