Ticketing services not available on IRCTC site, app due to technical reasons

IRCTC website has the capacity to book 25,000 railway tickets per minute

The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website’s ticket-booking feature crashed on Tuesday morning, leaving officials scrambling for a fix. Hours later, IRCTC informed that the booking issue had been resolved.

The outage for more than 3 hours has caused inconvenienced thousands of train commuters who visit the portal for booking train tickets.

Many of them took to express their disappointment over the glitch taking town Railway’s portal while others mocked the national transporter for not being able to manage a seamless portal.

Due to technical reasons, the ticketing service is not available on IRCTC site and App. Technical team of CRIS is resolving the issue.

Alternatively tickets can be booked through other B2C players like Amazon, Makemytrip etc.

The railways maintained that there was no hacking attempt and that this was a technical glitch that has now been resolved.

"There was some issue in authentication of transaction between banks and IRCTC in train ticket booking. When the issue was noticed in the morning, the expert team put all the efforts to resume the online IRCTC website and Mobile app ticketing service. By afternoon the issue was resolved and website first and later on the Mobile app for online ticket booking was started working," the spokesperson of Indian Railways said.

"To avoid inconvenience to the passengers, 200 additional PRS (Passenger Reservation System) ticket windows were opened at various Railway stations. Also helpline number and helpdesk were set up. Meanwhile alternate ticket booking option was available through other B2C players like MakeMyTrip, Amazon etc," the railways said.

IRCTC website has the capacity to book 25,000 railway tickets per minute. There are plans to ramp this up to facilitate booking 2.5 lakh tickets per minute.
