Speaking to reporters, Telangana employees Joint Action Committee chairman Swamy Goud accused the government of violating the Constitutional safeguards ensured to its employees.

He demanded the withdrawal of the alleged draconian Essential Services Maintenance Act invoked against the proposed strike and police and paramilitary forces stationed in government offices and universities in Telangana as a precondition for negotiations.

The union leader said the agitation in various forms would continue from August 8. He said an indefinite strike over the demand for Telengana would start on August 17.

Swamy Goud, accompanied by leaders representing 86 other unions in the state, participated in a meeting with the cabinet sub-committee. They  staged a walkout barely 15 minutes into the meeting, in protest against the government’s “attitude.”
