<p>Trying to force his bride to dance at his wedding ceremony proved costly for a groom in Uttar Pradesh's Ferozabad district, about 300 km from here.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Not only did the angry bride walk out of the wedding, the groom and his father also landed in the police lock up, following the registration of a complaint against them.<br /><br />According to the reports, the wedding of Jitendra Kumar, a resident of Durganagar locality in the district, had been fixed with a girl from neighbouring Hathras district. After the initial ritual of “jaimal” (offering of garlands by the bride and groom to each other), the groom and his friends started dancing along with the other guests of the wedding party.<br /><br />A few friends of Jitendra asked him to bring the bride on to the stage to dance with him. The bride, however, flatly refused to dance on being approached by Jitendra. After initial coaxing failed, Jitendra lost his cool and grabbed the bride by her arm and reportedly started dragging her toward the stage.<br /><br />The groom also, according to the reports, slapped a relative of the bride, when he objected to her being forced to dance.<br /><br />A furious bride not only threw off the garland, but also refused to marry the groom and walked out of the wedding venue much to the shock of the wedding party. All attempts to persuade the bride to agree to the wedding failed to yield any results and she remained firm on her decision.<br /><br />Compounding the woes of the wedding party and the groom, the bride's kin, who had been slapped, lodged a police complaint following which the groom, his father and some guests were detained by the police.<br /><br />Reports said that the groom and his father had spent the night at the police lock up before being released in the morning on Friday. The wedding party returned home without the bride. </p>
