The body of 22-year-old R Thirumaniselvan, who succumbed to head injuries sustained in stone-pelting in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, was brought to Chennai on Tuesday evening.

Thirumaniselvan, who worked with the BPO section of Accenture, was holidaying in Kashmir along with his parents when the incident took place.

His mortal remains will be consigned to flames on Wednesday in Avadi on the outskirts of the city.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti visited the hospital where the youngster succumbed to injuries and expressed grief over the incident.

The relatives and neighbours of Thirumaniselvan recalled him as a “very silent” boy who would keep to himself.

Condoling the death, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced a solatium of Rs 3 lakh to Thirumaniselvan's family.

Meanwhile, Palaniswami also spoke to Mehbooba and sought her help for the safe return of the 130 tourists from the state who are stranded in Srinagar. In a statement, Palaniswami said Tamil Nadu House officials in New Delhi have taken all steps with the help of the Jammu and Kashmir government to bring Thirumaniselvan 's body back to the state and for the safe return of other tourists.
