Karnataka has many destinations for a trekker. It doesn’t matter if you are a first-time trekker or an experienced one, there are many hills and mountains for you to climb and conquer. Being a soft-adventure sport, trekking has gained immense popularity in the state with people across ages taking to it enthusiastically.

Whether it’s the Western Ghats running parallel to the coast, or the Eastern Ghats at the state’s borders, Karnataka is cradled by lush green mountains on all three sides: east, west and south. Here are some trekking destinations of Karnataka for you to explore, for ain’t no mountain high enough. Get, set, trek!

Kudremukh: Nicknamed the Himalayas of the South, Kudremukh is located in Chikkamagaluru district. Kudremukh literally means ‘horse face’ and is Karnataka’s second highest peak after Mullayanagiri. The peak stands tall at 1,894 metres above sea level. Apart from spectacular trekking routes, there are also many stunning waterfalls here.

Skandagiri Hills: Situated close to Bengaluru, Skandagiri Hills offers both day and night trekking opportunities. The peak is 1,450 metres above sea level. From here, you can catch a glimpse of Nandi Hills, too. It has a well-marked trekking trail and you would need only two hours to reach the top. Sometimes, the top is entirely covered with mist, which makes the place magical.

Pushpagiri: Located in the Somwarpet taluk of Coorg, Pushpagiri, or Kumara Parvatha, as it is popularly known, is the fourth highest peak of Karnataka. Trekking here is not for the faint-hearted as it has some of the most difficult terrains. Offering spectacular views of Coorg, it’s also home to the Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary.

Tadiandamol: The third highest peak of Karnataka, Tadiandamol is located in Coorg district. The name Tadiandamol means ‘large mountain’. With an elevation of 1,748 metres and lush shola forests around it, Tadiandamol is perfect for day hikes. It’s also known to be apt for first-time trekkers. Nalaknad Palace, at the base of the hill, is must-visit.
