In our daily routine, an itchy and dry scalp is quite bothersome. In our effort to handle our tresses, the scalp often becomes a secondary priority. However, constantly scratching your scalp, dandruff and other issues may indicate that you are having a dry and flaky scalp. There are often various factors that cause dry scalp and unnecessary hairfall. But fret not, there’s a cure for every hair issue. Here are some effective home remedies for you to try:

Coconut oil

A dry scalp requires a lot of deep conditioning and this is where coconut oil comes into the picture. This is the most natural remedy to get rid of an itchy and flaky scalp. It moisturises the scalp, and its antiseptic properties can help reduce dryness and other hair troubles. Try applying coconut oil 2-3 hours before washing your hair.

Tea tree oil

This essential oil has all the useful antiseptic properties that uphold superior hair health, keep it hydrated, and revive the dry scalp. Either use 6-7 drops of tea tree oil and keep it all through the night, or use a shampoo that consists of tea tree oil in it for best results. Try using a small amount on the hair to test for harmful reactions.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera has a number of therapeutic properties that can soothe your unhealthy scalp. It is a treatment in itself that you can always rely on. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that fight against all infections. It’s a helpful moisturising agent which helps in fixing the dry scalp. Try using aloe vera gel on your scalp twice a week or make it at home with Vitamin E capsules.

Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has enormous health benefits that can reduce symptoms of a dry scalp. The acid in the cider transforms the PH of the scalp, making it harder for bacteria to grow, and thus leading to a dryness-free scalp. Use apple cider vinegar on your scalp, keep it on for an hour before rinsing it off to reinstate the acid mantle of the scalp and bring down the irritation caused by dryness.

Mashed bananas

Bananas are beneficial and moisture-inducing, making them incredibly healing for dry scalp. They have natural oils that soften, strengthen and cure your itchy and dry scalp. Apply it on your hair and leave it on for an hour and rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and get the preferred results.

Jojoba oil

Like coconut oil, jojoba oil is a fruitful moisturiser, which can ease dry scalp swiftly. To manage your dry scalp, rub jojoba oil into your scalp and leave it in for 30 minute. Wash off with a mild sulfate-free shampoo.

Shea butter

This super-active natural ingredient is rich in Vitamin A, and nurtures and moisturises the scalp. Shea butter removes scaly skin and acts as a natural conditioner for the scalp. Melt the shea butter and comb it gently on the scalp and leave it overnight. Repeat this one or twice a week.
