Didi indulging in politics over cyclone: Modi

Last Updated 06 May 2019, 10:59 IST

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a three-pronged attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Modi in two back to back rallies targeted the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo over the issues of cyclone Fani, people getting allegedly arrested for chanting Jai Shree Ram near her and on her “silence” on the issue of Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Massod Azahar being declared as an international terrorist by the United Nations.

Alleging that Banerjee did not bother to speak to him even as he called her twice recently to discuss the damage done in Bengal by the cyclone Fani the Prime Minister said that she was indulging in politics over the issue.

“Speed breaker Didi is leaving no stones unturned to indulge in politics over the cyclone also… I tried to talk to Mamata didi regarding the cyclone over the phone. But Didi is so arrogant that she did not speak to me… I called her again… But she did not speak to me the second time also,” said Modi.

The Prime Minister further alleged that even earlier in the day he wanted to speak to the state administration to take stalk of the damage done by the cyclone but even that was stopped by Banerjee.

Accusing the TMC supremo of keeping mum over the issue of Jaish-e-Mohammad Chief Masood Azhar being declared as an international terrorist by the United Nation’s Security Council the Prime Minister said that she was afraid of losing her vote bank if she spoke on the issue.

“Have you ever heard Didi praising the country over this? Perhaps she is afraid of losing her vote bank if she speaks on Masood Azhar. This kind of vote bank politics has shifted the ground beneath her feet,” said Modi.

At another rally in Jhargram district, the Prime accused Banerjee of putting people in jail for chanting Jai Shree Ram near her and criticised her for accusing BJP of turning Lord Ram into a polling agent.

“I want to clearly tell Didi that Ram is in our veins and in our culture. Ram is our inspiration and that’s why our politics is based on nationalism,” said Modi.
