Modi slams Cong over Pitroda's anti-Sikh riots remark

Last Updated 10 May 2019, 14:54 IST

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that thousands of Sikhs were slain in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and the insensitive three-word comment by Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s “Guru” have rubbed salt on the wounds of the Sikhs.

The PM was addressing rallies in Haryana and Punjab’s Hoshiarpur on Friday.

When asked about the Anti-Sikh riots in 1984, Congress leader Sam Pitroda said “Hua to Hua (So what?)."

"This leader (Sam), he said is close to the Gandhi family, was a good friend of Rajiv Gandhi and a guru of Rahul Gandhi. Thousands of Sikhs were burnt alive by putting petrol. Burning tyres were put around their neck and the Congress is saying 'Hua toh Hua,'" Modi said.

The PM accused the Congress leaders of leading the 1984 riots. “Many of them have been accused of conspiracy and involvement in the riots. That is why Congress got 44 seats. This time the Congress will get not even these many seats,” he said.

“Can Punjab forget this. Can Punjab forgive the Congress? For three decades the Congress only dilly-dallied. Commissions were set up, but no justice,” the PM said, adding that salt has been rubbed on the wounds (of Sikhs) by such acts.

This is Congress' “Nyay,” Modi said, taking a swipe at the Congress' much-touted Nyay scheme.
