Rahul concedes defeat: Smriti to bag stronghold Amethi

The high-voltage political battle between Rahul Gandhi and Smriti Irani is in the final stage of the Amethi constituency and already Congress president has conceded defeat to arch-rival BJP contestant.

As per the latest report on Election Commission website, Irani has amassed 315058 votes, 38,345 more than Gandhi (2,76,713). Amethi has been the Congress bastion for more than 20 years but is on the verge to be captured by BJP.

"कौन कहता है आसमां में सुराख नहीं हो सकता ...(meaning Who says that there can not be an eye in the sky ...)" Smriti Irani tweeted.

In the press conference in Delhi, Rahul Gandhi congratulated Narendra Modi's victory in the Lok Sabha elections 2019. He declined to elaborate on what went wrong, but said would introspect about it in a later stage.

On the brighter side, Rahul has bagged Wayanad, Kerala with 7,05,371 votes.
