Kolkata, DHNS: At a time when questions are being raised about political courtesy, following his allegations against late former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that he respects West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee even though she has threatened to slap him.

Modi, who addressed two rallies in the state, alleged that in her rage against him, Banerjee has actually insulted the Constitution.

“I have been told that Didi has said she wants to slap Modi. Mamata di I always address you as Didi and have respect you. Even your slap will be blessing for me,” said Modi. He was addressing a rally in Purulia district.

He also said that if Banerjee had the courage to slap her companions who looted the poor in the name of chit funds, then she would not have to be so afraid now.

At another rally in Bankura district, Modi alleged that the TMC supremo in her fear of losing power is actually insulting the Constitution by refusing to acknowledge the Prime Minister of the country.

“Didi in her confusion is even insulting the Constitution. She is publicly saying that she does not accept the current Prime Minister of the country as Prime Minister. But she feels glorified to acknowledge the Prime Minister of Pakistan,” said Modi.

He was referring to Banerjee’s rebuttal of his allegation that the former did not answer his calls when cyclone Fani hit Bengal.

Banerjee, at a recent rally, had said that she is not willing to speak to an “ expiry Prime Minister” (Modi) and will speak to the new Prime Minister of the country after the elections. She also said that she was unable to answer the Prime Minister’s calls made to her Kolkata office she was in Kharagpur in West Medinipur district at the time.

Speaking further on the issues of language and abuse, the Prime Minister said that one can realise how agitated Banerjee is by listening to the kind of language she uses.

“Now she is using words such as stones and slaps for me. Didi now I am used to abuses and can digest abuses in all the dictionaries in the world,” said Modi.
