Actor Roopika is excited as her hands are full. Introduced to Sandalwood as a child artist through the film ‘Krishna’, she made it into the Kannada audience’s hearts through other projects like ‘Cheluvina Chilipili’ and ‘Manjari’.

The audio launch of her upcoming movie ‘Rudrakshipura’ happened recently and she is excited about the film. In a candid conversation with Tini Sara Anien, she talks about her role as a gemologist in the film and more.

Tell us about ‘Rudrakshipura’.

The film revolves around the story of a diamond. I play two characters in the film, one of a gemologist and the other of a founder of an NGO. Playing a gemologist was quite a challenge as there are many details connected to the role.

Did you have to prepare a lot for your role?

I had to visit a gem research centre and study the characteristics of a diamond and about its value. The most challenging part was enacting scenes where I have to deliver a lecture to some lecturers. It was quite an intense role and I sport a very mature look in the film, which is very new to me. My outfit and even my makeup added to my mature look.

Tell us about an interesting scene in the movie...

My introduction role in the film shows me doing a dance performance on the stage. This was quite interesting as I am a classical dancer and have a personal connection with dance.

How challenging was it to play two roles in the same project?

It can be quite taxing. There were days when we just shot back to back throughout the day. I would sometimes have to work on both the characters on the same day, which meant slipping into a different costume in a few hours and practising different lines.

Your other projects are...

I finished shooting for ‘Third Class’, where I portray the role of a home minister’s daughter and a spoilt brat. The hero’s character is the exact opposite of mine, he works in a garage. The movie explores how the relationship will progress and will look into how the society looks at people with a certain status and money.

A genre you want to experiment with?

I want to act in a historical or a unique movie, something like how Anushka was in ‘Bhaagamathie’.
