Coronavirus News highlights: Karnataka sees dip in cases, toll crosses 20,000 mark

India reported 40,134 new Covid cases and 422 deaths in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry. Meanwhile, India's active Covid cases have increased to 4,13,718, the data showed.

17.94 lakh Covid related health insurance claims settled

As many as 17.94 lakh Covid-related health insurance claims amounting to Rs 21,837 crore were settled in about last 15 months till July 15, 2021.

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Bhagwat Karad said health insurance claims are settled by insurers as per terms and conditions of the health insurance policy contract.

Since the onset of the pandemic, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has taken several steps for speedy settlement of Covid-related health insurance claims.

Reliance Foundation to provide 3 lakh free Covid vaccines in Mumbai

In a major outreach scheme to protect vulnerable communities, Reliance Foundation, the philanthropy arm of India's most valuable company, will partner with Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) to provide three lakh Covid-19 vaccine doses to communities across 50 locations in the city.

The free vaccination drive, through Sir H N Reliance Foundation Hospital, aims to protect underprivileged people in neighbourhoods including Dharavi, Worli, Wadala, Colaba, Pratiksha Nagar, Kamathipura, Mankhurd, Chembur, Govandi and Bhandup, the Foundation said in a statement.

Karnataka recorded a dip in new Covid-19 cases on Monday, logging 1,285 cases, taking the tally to 29.08 lakh, while the toll crossed the 20,000 mark with 25 more deaths. The state had reported 1,875 cases on Sunday

Johnson & Johnson says committed to bringing its Covid vaccine to India

Global healthcare major Johnson & Johnson on Monday said it remains committed to bringing its single-dose Covid-19 vaccine to India and looks forward to ongoing discussions with the Indian government.

The statement comes after the company withdrew its application to conduct bridging clinical studies of its vaccine in India after the government waived the requirement of such trials for foreign-approved vaccines.
