After four days of questioning and strong words from a court, the Delhi Police on Tuesday night arrested AIADMK (Amma) leader T T V Dhinakaran in connection with a case of bribing Election Commission officials for the ‘two leaves’ symbol.
Dhinakaran and his aide Mallikarjun were arrested close to midnight following questioning, sources said. He was grilled for about 37 hours during the last four days.
Dhinakaran, sources claimed, has already admitted to meeting 27-year-old Sukesh Chandrasekar, a “middleman” arrested in the case last week, assuming that he was a high court judge who could help him settle the party symbol issue by bribing Election Commission officials. Sukesh was arrested on April 16 from a five-star hotel here allegedly with Rs 1.3 crore.
Earlier in the day, a local court found it unusual that the police were not taking action against Dhinakaran when they had presented Sukesh for extending his custody.
