Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday alleged that Narendra Modi-government destroyed nearly 30,000 jobs every day while promising that his party would make the Northeast a manufacturing hub to create jobs for local youths.

Citing a new report of NSSO that said that the country saw more than one crore fewer jobs in 2018, Rahul alleged that the report exposed Modi government's false promise to create two crore jobs every year. "He did not create a single job. This report exposed his incompetence," Rahul said almost similarly in two separate rallies near Imphal in Manipur and Agartala in Tripura, two BJP-ruled states.

The two states have two Lok Sabha seats each.

"We (UPA government) had brought in the Look East Policy to transform the Northeast into India's hub of connectivity and trade with ASEAN countries. But Modiji one day decided to change it into Act East policy. What he has done after that? We had given Manipur and rest of the Northeast special category state status as the region has unique issues and challenges but Modiji had withdrawn the same.

We brought in the Northeast Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy but the Modi government scrapped it. We will restore all these policies as soon as we come back to power. We will build infrastructure, roads, airports and factories here so that Manipur becomes a trade hub and local youths get jobs here," Rahul said.

The promise perhaps was aimed at questions posed by students to Gandhi on Tuesday evening in Manipur University campus about increasing number of youths from the Northeast moving out in search of jobs.

BJP/RSS to destroy NE culture

Rahul continued his attack on BJP and RSS alleging that the saffron brigade was trying to destroy the unique culture, language and history of people of Manipur and rest of the Northeast by bringing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

"They want to impose a single ideology dictated from Nagpur (RSS headquarters) on all people. They had appointed a vice-chancellor in Manipur University, whose only qualification is that he wears a pair of shorts and attends RSS shakhas with a stick in his hands. You did the right thing to remove him through protests. We will never allow Narendra Modi and RSS to impose their ideology on you. We did not allow the bill to be passed in the Rajya Sabha and we will never allow them to do so," Rahul said.

On Tuesday Rahul had made similar allegation in Arunachal Pradesh In Agartala, Gandhi said Congress government would bring in an act to protect land rights of indigenous people and ensure that citizenship bill is not passed.
