Gehlot or Pilot? Rahul to take final call

A day after the Congress emerged as the single-largest party in Rajasthan Assembly elections, the party failed to arrive at a consensus after a series of meetings over the chief ministerial candidate.

The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Rajasthan adopted a one-line resolution on Wednesday, authorising party president Rahul Gandhi to decide who will be the chief minister. Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot moved the resolution, which was unanimously adopted at the first meeting of the CLP convened in Jaipur. AICC general secretaries Avinash Pande and K C Venugopal were present. Venugopal, the AICC observer monitoring the situation in Rajasthan, later sought the opinion of each legislator separately.

As per sources, individual opinions will also be referred to Rahul Gandhi as feedback.

While closed-door meetings were taking place inside the Congress office, supporters of two probable CM candidates — Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot — were shouting slogans in favour of their leaders, in a clear division of choice.
