Govt to look into plaints of IIT aspirants

Last Updated 16 July 2013, 20:11 IST

The government has decided to look into complaints that many students could not make it to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) this year despite scoring well in the qualifying test because of some flaw in the process of calculation of their Class XII percentile.

Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister M M Pallam Raju will hold a meeting with those involved in the process of conducting the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and preparing the result for admissions to the 15 premier technical institutes on Wednesday.

Chairman of the joint admission board of the IITs, H C Gupta, is expected to attend the meeting. “We would hold the meeting to figure out the shortcomings in the process of calculation of the percentile, if any, and streamline the process,” the minister said during an informal interaction with media persons here.

When asked if he had a plan to review the format of the JEE, he categorically denied.
“I am satisfied with the formula and scheme decided for the normalization of class XII Board examination. On the face of it, there is no problem because rational behind it is very sound,” he said, adding that the purpose of Wednesday’s meeting was to find out if there was any shortcoming in the calculation of the students.
