India sees uptick in Covid cases with 8,329 fresh infections

The active cases now comprise 0.09% of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.69%

India on Saturday reported the highest number of Covid-19 cases in 103 days.

With 8,329 cases in the last 24 hours, this is the highest jump since February 23 when 10,273 cases were reported. This takes the current number of active cases to 40,307, as per data from the ministry of health and family welfare.

This is an increase of 4,103 cases in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. In addition, 10 people succumbed to the virus. The death toll due to the virus till now stands at 5,24,757, and in all, 4,32,13,435 people have been infected by the virus, a release by the ministry on Saturday morning showed.

Since Friday, 4,216 patients have recovered, and as many as 4,26,48,308 people have been discharged from hospitals after recuperating from the disease, and the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.21 per cent. India’s recovery rate stands at 98.69 per cent.

The health ministry also said that in the last 24 hours, a total of 3,44,994 Covid-19 tests have been conducted. Till now, India has conducted over 85,45,43,282 tests.

Over 194.92 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far.
