Govt. pressure, temple demolitions may be behind collapse: Cong.

Last Updated 25 October 2018, 11:53 IST

Training guns at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress on Wednesday said that "demolition" of Vinayaka temples and "pressure" on the engineers to complete the project before the next Lok Sabha polls might have caused Tuesday flyover collapse in Varanasi.

Uttar Pradesh Congress president Raj Babbar, who visited the victims of the flyover tragedy at a hospital in Varanasi, also attacked Modi for not "caring to visit" his Lok Sabha constituency.

"Modi is busy in government formation in Karnataka," Babbar said.

He said that he had been told that three Vinayaka (Lord Ganesha) temples had been demolished to make way for the flyover.

"People believe that it might also have been one of the reasons," he remarked.

Babbar also said that the engineers working on the project were under pressure to expedite the work in view of the next year's Lok Sabha polls.

Congress' Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh, who accompanied Babbar, said that Modi's ministers were busy "buying" MLAs in Karnataka.

"People are buying a shroud for the dead and Modi's ministers are buying MLAs in Karnataka," Singh charged.
