Mishra alleges tainted businessman funded AAP leaders' Russia trip

Last Updated 21 May 2017, 11:39 IST
Sacked Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra on Sunday launched 'Let's Clean AAP' campaign to rid the party of corrupt leaders and "apologised to ousted leaders like Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav for not heeding to their concerns earlier.

Mishra's remarks came at a press conference here where he came up with fresh allegations against AAP where he claimed the Russia tour of party leaders Sanjay Singh and Ashutosh were funded by an entrepreneur who is facing probe in a multi-crore scam.

The AAP government was quick to dismiss the claim, saying it was the first Kejriwal government which initiated the probe in the case and the case was with Anti-Corruption Bureau under the control of the Lieutenant Governor.

Mishra asked AAP workers to come together and "snatch it back" from the corrupt people. "My request to all those who left the party and party workers -- we don't have to leave this party, we have to snatch it back from the corrupt. I am launching a campaign called 'Let's clean AAP'," he said adding that he won't leave AAP or form another party.

"I apologise to everyone, including Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav, who I may have offended when I stood by Kejriwal," he said.

In his fresh allegations, Mishra asked Kejriwal whether he knew about the source of funding of Russia tour by Singh and Ashutosh. He alleged that the entrepreneur who owns the firm which is into installing high-security registration plates funded the tour.

However, government spokesperson Nagender Sharma said the probe into the high-security number plates scam was ordered during the first AAP government in February 2014 but the decision was reversed by the then Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, with whom the government was at loggerheads.

"Horribly wrong script being handed over to Kapil Mishra - poor fellow has no clue of what he's speaking! Who is misguiding him," Sharma tweeted.

"BJP had tried to rake up this issue in June last year but went silent when it came to know that file was lying with its ACB since months," he added.
