'Modi will die Hitler's death...': Congress leader amid ED probe, Agnipath protests

Congress has been ramping up its protests against ED questioning Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case and against Agnipath

Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahai on Monday waded into a controversy after he remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi "will die like Hitler" if he continues to follow the path of the German dictator. The party immediately distanced itself from "the indecent" remark.

Addressing a Congress 'Satyagraha' on Agnipath scheme and misuse of central agencies, Sahai alleged that the ruling BJP government was one of "looters" and Modi was acting like a "ringmaster" who has adopted the role of a "dictator".

"I feel he has even surpassed Hitler. Hitler had also created an organisation called 'Khaki' from within the army. If Modi follows Hitler's path, he will die like Hitler, remember this," he said.

Distancing itself from the remarks, the Congress said that it does not endorse any "indecent" remarks against the Prime Minister.

Congress chief spokesperson Jairam Ramesh tweeted, "Congress will continue to fight against the dictatorial ideology and anti-people policies of the Modi government. But we do not agree with any indecent remarks against the Prime Minister. Our struggle will continue on Gandhian principles and way."

Congress has stepped up its protest against the Narendra Modi government in the past couple of weeks, especially after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) started quizzing its top leader Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald scam case.

The Agnipath scheme, announced on June 14, provides for the recruitment of youths in the age bracket of 17-and-half to 21 years in the armed forces for only four years with a provision to retain 25 per cent of them for 15 more years. Later, the government extended the upper age limit to 23 years for recruitment in 2022.
