Continuing his tirade against prime minister Narendra Modi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday accused the former of ''lying'' and appealed to the people to ''question'' the BJP leaders on their ''unfulfilled'' promises''.

Rahul, who concluded his two-day visit to his Lok Sabha constituency of Amethi, also said, while addressing a series of meetings, that Congress would ''defeat'' the BJP in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

''The prime minister has a habit of lying....next time, when BJP leaders visit you (people) ask them about their unfulfilled promises,'' the Congress president said at his meetings in Amethi.

He also accused the BJP government of scrapping developmental projects meant for Amethi and Raebareli, which was represented by his mother Sonia Gandhi in the Lok Sabha.

Rahul said that the BJP government at the centre had ''endangered'' the autonomy of the constitutional institutions. ''Our democracy is under grave threat,'' he added.

He promises all-round development of Amethi and Raebareli if Congress formed the next government at the centre.

The Congress president said that his party would contest the forthcoming LS polls with all its might. ''We are here to defeat the BJP,'' he remarked.

Rahul, however, had to face a protest from the farmers at Gauriganj in the constituency on Thursday. The farmers claimed that their land was acquired by Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and demanded that their lands be given back to them.
