Taking a dig at Congress president Rahul Gandhi over the speculation that he may contest in seats from Karnataka or Kerala along with Amethi, Samajwadi Party vice president Kiranmoy Nanda said that it shows the real condition in Uttar Pradesh.

Nanda was speaking to reporters in Kolkata on Monday.

"We have seen reports that Rahul Gandhi, along with Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, may also contest from another seat in Karnataka or Kerala. This shows the real condition of the Congress in Uttar Pradesh," said Nanda.

As for why the SP and BSP decided to leave the Congress out of their alliance and leave the party only two seats, Nanda said that in the 2017 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, SP entered into an alliance with the Congress but this did not make any impact.

Along with the BSP, SP has also formed an alliance with the RLD.

"The alliance of SP, BSP and RLD will stop the BJP in its track in Uttar Pradesh. The SP and BSP together will get more than 60 seats in the state," said Nanda.

"We will extend our support to TMC in Bengal as only Mamata Banerjee has the strength to defeat BJP in this state. The SP will also hold rallies in support of the TMC in Bengal," said Nanda.
