Starting well ahead of their rivals the celebrity candidates of TMC are firing on all cylinders to campaign for ensuing Lok Sabha polls.

While some are banking on the star power of their iconic parents others being political greenhorns are banking heavily on their senior party leaders.

TMC’s sitting MP from Bakura Lok Sabha constituency, Moon Moon Sen who has been fielded this time from the Asansol constituency is banking on the perennial charisma of her mother, the iconic Bengali actor Suchitra Sen. According to the TMC leadership in Asansol, Sen kicked-off campaign by flooding the constituency with posters and banners of her legendary mother.

“ The aim is to capitalise on the star power of Suchitra Sen which has not faded a bit even years after her death. If one is from Bengal and loves Bengali films then he or she will not be able to ignore our candidate (Sen),” the TMC leader said.

“ You must have heard about my mother(Suchitra Sen). Please vote for me for the sake of my mother and our chief minister,” said Sen in one of her campaign rallies in Asansol drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

Another celebrity candidate Deepak Adhikari, popularly known as Dev is focussing on the public sentiment for the Bengali language. Dev, who in 2016 drew eyeballs for speaking in Bengali in Parliament on the flood issue, said if elected he will once again speak in Bengali in Parliament. Dev was elected from the Ghatal Lok Sabha seat in 2014.

As for TMC candidates Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan, both debutante in electoral politics, are banking on the charisma of the chief minister and senior party leaders. Both candidates are now focusing on knowing their constituencies and balancing between film and politics. Chakraborty has announced that she will take a break from the silver screen till the election is over.
