One accused has been arrested in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a woman in front of her husband, who was also beaten up by a group of five men in Rajasthan's Alwar district.

According to the police, the incident took place on April 26 around 3 pm when the victim was travelling to Rajasthan's Talvriksha from her village Lalwadi, accompanied by her husband on a motorcycle. The complaint was registered on April 30. According to the complaint lodged by the victim's family, "The husband was beaten by two persons, while three others gang-raped the woman. The accused were travelling on two motorcycles."

The accused reportedly shot the entire act on their cell phone cameras and threatened to post it on social media in order to silence the couple.

Police delay?

According to the police, a case has been lodged under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act, 2015. Rajasthan Director General of Police (DGP) Kapil Garg told media on Tuesday that one accused identified as Indraj Gujer has been arrested. However, four others are absconding. Police have so far formed 14 teams, who are searching for the absconding accused.

Massive protests have erupted in Alwar with protesters demanding the immediate arrest of the accused. Reacting to the protests and agitation in Alwar against the delay by police in arresting the accused, Station House officer of Thana Ghazi police station was suspended later in the day.
