Grammy-award winning percussionist T H Vinayakram will be conferred the Special Lifetime Achievement Award by the Chennai-based Music Academy at a function in October.
Vinaykram is one of the best-known faces of percussion from South India. He will be presented the Special Lifetime Achievement Award on October 10, 2018, the Music Academy had said in a statement.
“This award does not fall under the institution's annual recognition and honours. It is conferred once in a while to artistes of outstanding calibre who the Music Academy feels deserve an independent recognition,” N Murali, president of the academy, said in the release.
After making his mark here, Vinayakram moved on to the international stage where he joined the Shakti Group to collaborate with John McLaughlin and Zakir Hussain.
