A special court sent Rajya Sabha MP and Shiv Sena chief spokesperson Sanjay Raut to a 14-day custody in a money laundering case related to the Patra Chawl and lodged in the Arthur Road jail in Mumbai.

In the next few days, Raut is expected to move a bail application before the special PMLA court.

Raut, a four-time MP and Executive Editor of Sena mouthpiece Saamana, was on August 1 arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the 1,034-crore land development scam.

Raut was produced before PMLA Court’s Special Judge M G Deshpande, which granted him judicial custody till August 22. On 31 July, the ED raided Raut’s residence, Maitree in Bhandup. On August 6, the ED recorded the second statement of his wife Varsha Raut. "Shiv Sena will continue to fight," said Raut, while he was being escorted by ED.

Raut's brother Sunil Raut said that his brother is a fighter and they will continue to fight. "We will not bow down," he said.

The court allowed Raut's plea for home food and medicines but refused to pass an order on his prayer for bedding. The judge said as per the prison manual, jail authorities make adequate bed arrangements.
