Kannada novelist S L Bhyrappa has said Jawaharlal Nehru became the prime minister in an unethical way and Mahatma Gandhi made him the prime minister.

Speaking at the valedictory ceremony of a two-day state conference of Akhila Bharatiya Sahitya Parishat here on Sunday, he said when British left the country, they had decided to hand over the power to the leaders of the Congress party. Then, there were 15 regional committees in Congress. Among them, 12 committees supported Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. But as Mahatma Gandhi had a special concern over Nehru’s family, he made him the prime minister, he claimed.

Bhyrappa said Nehru, who studied at Cambridge University, was following Communist principles and also came forward to introduce the principles in the country.

Some resolutions were passed at the conference. They are: The aim of literature is to create a healthy society and the writers should produce works for the betterment of society; The writers should not get lured by awards and prizes; The writers must not provoke violence and they should express their opposition only through writing and speech. No writers should misuse literature for publicising political
parties.

A mini library in every house helps to cultivate the habit of reading among the people. The resolution also states that everyone should develop a culture of gifting books at programmes.

The organisers decided to hold the Third state conference of Akhila Bharatiya Sahitya Parishat at Ujire, Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, in
2021.
